Coming Full Circle

In reviewing the exhibit, the final section summarises the effects that these historic developments has had on society. We describe some of the changes that have led to the economic and cultural diversity of today. Known initially for its ‘fat’, then ignored for its hostile environment, the region’s sugar success earned for some unbridled wealth. The plantation has since given way to luxury, all-inclusives and cruise-liners.

By their resourcefulness, Montegonians - as entrepreneurs, hoteliers, cultivators, craft-makers, musicians - the resort’s population and its facilities attract steady growth. Traditional craft and tourist novelties, games, print material and beverage bottles are displayed. Montego Bay was conferred city status in 1981. The city’s driving force remains the population’s ability to re-shape and respond to the opportunities.
